The Season 2 update for Skate is a solid step forward for the game. It brings a new neon-punk aesthetic, new and reworked locations, and some new tricks. Among these new tricks are plenty of new handplant variations, 14 of them to be exact. Handplants are an excellent way to end a combo, but you can also chain them with reverts and manuals afterward to keep the line going.
Until now, the handplants were limited to just two: the frontside handplant and the backside handplant. Now, with 14 brand new variations, there are a total of 16 handplants to choose from. This includes One-Foot, No-Foot, and Tweaked Handplants, and performing them Fakie gives you even more variations.
How Handplants Work In Skate Season 2
The handplant is a very popular trick among street skateboarding, dating all the way back to the late 70s and 80s. One of the more popular of these was the Andrecht Handplant, a one-handed plant where you grab the outer edge of the board. In skate. you can now perform a similar handplant with the FS Tuck Knee plant. While it’s not exactly a 1:1 copy of the Andrecht plant, the frontside rotation and tuck knee mechanic is quite similar to Dave Andrecht’s legendary move.
The new handplant roster has enabled skaters to showcase their creativity, allowing for stylish poses and innovative moves. To perform a handplant in Skate, you have to simply approach the edge of a vertical surface and press R1 or RB at the vertex. Flicking the right stick in various directions will enable different variations of the plant.
With Season 2, you can now hold the plant for longer based on the duration of your input. You can also chain multiple plants back-to-back in the same sequence.
All The New Handplant Variations In Skate

By adding 14 new ways to execute this trick, Skate has introduced a new dimension of innovation. Your roster extends beyond the Front Side and Backside handplants. Here’s the full list of the 16 handplants in the game as of the current update:
- FS Tailbone Plant
- FS Tuck Knee Plant
- FS Stiff Plant
- FS Boned Plant
- FS Frigid Plant
- FS One-Foot Plant
- FS Gymnast Plant
- BS Tuck Knee Plant
- BS Crossbone Plant
- BS Method Plant
- BS Tweak Plant
- BS One-Foot Plant
- BS Judo Plant
- BS Gymnast Plant
Though all of these variations are wild and unique, some stand out more than others. For instance, the FS Tuck Knee Plant makes your skater pull their knees to the chest while planted, making it look like they’re getting compressed.
The BS Judo Plant is very aggressive, symbolizing a flying kick; your free leg shoots out in the air just like in martial arts. Finally, the FS Gymnast Plant involves an elegant spread of the body, more of an acrobatic pose than a standard skate trick.
Season 2 also introduces an “Own The Lot” mode and the debut of the Impossible Flip. You also get improved Party Voice Chat and Party Beacons, making it easier to connect with your teammates in the new mode.
