Nailing a Varial Heelflip in Skate 4 isn’t about learning another cool trick. It’s a real flex move that screams, “I ain’t no skating amateur”. The trick combines a heelflip with a frontside pop-shove-it, so you end up flipping and spinning the board in one smooth snap.
After learning the basics of heelflip and pop-shove-it moves, this trick is the perfect follow-up. So add this one to your list. Here’s how to pull off a Varial Heelflip, from what the trick is, to how to control it, and execute it perfectly.
What Is A Varial Heelflip?
A Varial Heelflip feels like a magic trick for your deck: it’s going to catch some eyes for sure – it’s straightforward in theory, but mastering it can take some time.
It’s very similar to the inward heelflip except with a front shove-it. You take the classic heelflip, where you kick the front of your board with your heel so it flips, and mix in a frontside pop-shove-it, spinning the board 180 degrees toward your toes.
Since it’s a flat-ground trick, you don’t need ramps or rails, just decent timing and good control.
How To Do A Varial Heelflip (Controls)

Here are the Flick-It System inputs in the sequence that executes a Varial Heelflip:
Simply pull the Right Stick diagonally down to the Left, then slightly move it to the center, and then flick it up diagonally right.
Note: Don’t wait between the inputs; they’re supposed to be done instantly after one another.
Can’t Get It Right?
If it’s still not coming together naturally, then consider breaking the motions down. Focus on doing heelflips and shove-its individually and improve landing them with no stress.
After a strong grasp of both moves, simply put them together. Then you have it: a clean Varial Heelflip. Remember, practice makes perfect.
Combos With The Varial Heelflip
The varial heelflip is a solid trick on its own, but adding it to your lines really makes it pop out. Here are a couple of cool ways to use the Varial Heelflip.
- Landing From A Grind: Instead of doing an ollie to exit a grind, you can use a varial heelflip for additional style points. It’s difficult to get the inputs down in that short frame of time, but once you land it, it feels awesome.
- Varial Heelflip Over A Gap Into A Manual: There are lots of fun gaps in San Vansterdam that you can varial Heelflip over. Just approach the gap with enough speed, then varial heelflip and smoothly land into a manual.
- Vert Skating: Vert Skating is also a great place to try Varial Heelflips. You can chain it into grabs and flips.
