Sixty jobs face axe at North Wales oil and gas consultancy

Sixty skilled jobs face the axe at an oil and gas consultancy in North Wales.

CGG Robertson in Llanrhos near Llandudno is taking the action in response to the downturn in the sector.

Unite Wales said it was a "devastating blow" for the site - which employs around 150 workers - and the region.

A spokesman for CGG said: "In response to the current downturn in the oil and gas industry we have presented a proposal to reduce approximately 60 roles within our organisation.

"In these challenging market conditions we believe this difficult decision will enable us to maintain a viable business through the downturn and ensure the sustainability of our operation in North Wales.”

It is commencing a 30 day consultation process over the job losses.

Daryl Williams, Unite regional officer, said: “This news is a devastating blow for north west Wales which is already suffering badly from the collapse in the leisure and tourism sector as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic.

"These jobs are highly skilled and not easily replaced.

"We are calling upon CGG Robertson to think again and engage with Unite to try and navigate a way through the current crisis, whilst keeping the loyal workforce intact. Unite will be offering every support possible to our members during this worrying and difficult time."
