Sixth transport hub set to open for kitchen giant Wren

A sixth transport depot is about to be opened by kitchen giant Wren.

The four-acre hub on the outskirts of Manchester will service customers on the west of the country, complementing the strategically located sites already operational.

This recent investment is part of Wren’s wider growth plans, with the aim of opening three more depots across the UK this year to cater for increased business and to ultimately reduce fuel costs and emissions.

With 18 vehicles running from the depot every day, around 40 jobs will be created including Class One and Class Two drivers, porters, yardmen and supervisors.

Lee Holmes, head of transport operation at the Barton-based business, said: "We operate a complex operation, delivering over 2,000 kitchens a week to customers across the length of breadth of the UK.

"Our logistics are at the heart of Wren’s success, and as the company continues to grow, so does the need for better connectivity to be closer to our customers across the UK to ensure we continue to deliver 99.5 per cent on time and in full.

"We’re also focusing on reducing our impact on the environment, and with the recent investment of greener trucks and our increased presence across the UK, we will continue to reduce CO2 emissions.”

Wren was recently handed the Operational Excellence Award at the Motor Transport Awards, and recently invested in a new fleet of Mercedes-Benz Antos lorries.

They work between manufacturing centres in Scunthorpe, Howden and Barton, the 80 showrooms now open and the depots at The Nest, Howden Bristol, Stansted and Larkhall.
