Sixth Sunderland care home staff member tests positive for coronavirus

A sixth member of staff at a Sunderland care home has tested positive for coronavirus.

Staff at Park Lodge, in Roker, are self-isolating at home, with residents also self-isolating in the home.

Operated by Swanton Care, the home provides 24/7 care and support to six adults with learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy and challenging behaviour.

It comes after the home confirmed on October 12 that five members of staff and three residents tested positive for coronavirus.

Visits to the care home are currently suspended due to the outbreak.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that one additional staff member has tested positive for coronavirus disease during the same round of routine testing that identified other positive cases.

"This result has only just been sent through to us.

“We continue to follow the strictest infection control protocols in the home and are working closely with Public Health England, who have confirmed the robustness of our current procedures.

“In accordance with the latest Government guidance on household mixing all visits to the home are currently suspended.

"We are not in a position where we can comment on individuals within the home.

“We thank our residents and their families for their patience and support during this challenging time.”
