A sixth high school in Renfrewshire has confirmed a person has tested positive for Covid-19.
St Andrew’s Academy in Paisley revealed last night that pandemic trace and protect experts were working to trace all those who had been in close contact with the infected person.
Staff and students identified as close contacts have been asked to quarantine at home with their entire household for the 14 days.
All those who have not been contacted have been told to return to school as normal today.
St Andrew’s Academy is the sixth high school in the region to confirm the presence of coronavirus within the school building.
It follows similar announcements from Paisley Grammar, Gleniffer High, Johnstone High, Gryffe High and Castlehead High.
A spokeswoman for Renfrewshire Council said: “We can confirm Covid-19 test and protect contact tracing is being carried out at St Andrew’s Academy.
“All parents and carers with a child at the school have been contacted via text message with a letter from the NHS to make them aware.
“NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde public health team advise there is currently no evidence of transmission within the school itself, that robust control measures are in place, and that the school remains safe to remain open as normal.”
Health chiefs are however asking parents to remain vigilant of the symptoms of coronavirus which include a high temperature or fever, a new continuous cough or a loss of/change in sense of smell or taste.
Children should not be sent to school if either they or a member of their households displays any of these symptoms.
