Shkodran Mustafi is ready to leave Arsenal in the final days of the January transfer window and is awaiting offers, according to reports.
The German defender has been a bit-part member of Mikel Arteta's squad this season, featuring on just three occasions in the Premier League.
Arsenal's January window has so far orientated around major departures, with Sead Kolasinac, Mesut Ozil and Sokratis all leaving, and Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated Mustafi could be next.
"Genoa were really interested, before they were contacting Sokratis they were trying for Mustafi, but there was no agreement about the salary or anything," he told Chronicles of a Gooner YouTube channel.
“You also have to remember that Sokratis played with Genoa in the past, he was loved by the fans so it was different, Mustafi was playing with Sampdoria, the other team of Genoa, the same city, so he didn’t want to join Genoa.
“Let’s see if any other club will go in, at the moment I don’t have anything confirmed about Barcelona just because they are working on the Eric Garcia deal, he will join the club in the summer, but for sure they are trying to have him also now in January but that won’t be easy.
“They don’t want to spend any money before they get the new president and they have the election in some days, so at the moment with Mustafi there is nothing advanced, but for sure he is a player ready to leave the club in the coming days."
Mustafi, like Kolasinac, Ozil and Sokratis, sees his contract in north London expire at the end of the season and a departure from north London this year is expected.
He could now become the sixth player to leave Arsenal in January, with William Saliba joining Nice on loan and Matt Macey moving to Scottish side Hibernian permanently.
