Sixteenth resident dies at Stanley Park Care Home after showing coronavirus symptoms

A sixteenth resident has died at a County Durham care home after showing signs of coronavirus.

It is the latest death at Stanley Park Care Home since the outbreak of the virus, with the first resident dying in March.

Care UK, which operates the care home, has thanked the community for their support over recent weeks.

Regional Director Karen Morrison said: “On behalf of everyone at Care UK I would like to send our thoughts and condolences to all the families and friends who have lost someone at this sad time.

“I would also like to personally thank everyone in the Stanley community who has supported the home over the past few weeks.

“The generosity and kind wishes of families of residents and local people has really helped everyone in the team to get through this challenging time.”

On Thursday, emergency services turned arrived outside the care home as part of the nation’s weekly Clap for Carers

An emotional Vera Lynn tribute concert was held outside the care home for carers and residents.

Deborah Taylor-Smith sang classics such as Somewhere Over The Rainbow and The White Cliffs of Dover as residents watched the morale-boosting hour-long set from inside the home or on a balcony, with some even signing and dancing with their carers.
