Sixteen more deaths in UK and 812 new cases of coronavirus confirmed

More than 800 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK and a further 16 deaths have been recorded since yesterday.

A further 812 lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus have been announced by the Department of Health bringing the total number to 321,098 - up from 320,286 yesterday.

The death toll in the UK has risen from 41,381 to 41,396 in the last 24 hours.

This includes deaths in hospitals as well as in the wider community.

However, separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

There have been no further reported deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Wales or in Scotland, health officials have said.

However, the death total in Scotland has increased by one to 2,492 due to a previous fatality being included in the figures.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the death was registered on April 21 but not included in original figures due to a delay.

The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Wales remains at 1,589.
