Sixteen Edinburgh cops self-isolate after coronavirus cases confirmed at police station

Cops in Edinburgh are self-isolating after being identified as close contacts of two colleagues who tested positive for coronavirus at a police station.

16 officers are now isolating after confirmed cases of coronavirus were found at the policing hub in Drylaw.

The Daily Record reported that is understood that cops at the station are now being encouraged to wear masks at all times, except for those with health conditions which make them exempt.

NHS Lothian confirmed yesterday that that a “small number” of people had tested positive for the virus and that “necessary guidance and advice” had been provided, but refused to confirm whether officers had been involved.

The NHS statement went on: “To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, no further details will be released."

Health chiefs reminded anyone who develops symptoms - a new continuous cough, temperature and/or loss of taste and smell - to book a test and self isolate.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
