Young gun Josh Philippe has fallen agonisingly short of a maiden Twenty20 century as the Sydney Sixers posted 4-205 against the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.
Philippe smacked 95 from 57 opening the batting at Blundstone Arena and had great support late from Jordan Silk, who was unbeaten on 45 from 19 balls.
Philippe pulled out a full array of shots after being given a chance on 24 when off-spinner Beau Webster dropped a high caught-and-bowled opportunity.
The highly rated 23-year-old was out in the final over caught at cover by Aaron Finch off Josh Lalor.
It was his eighth BBL half-century and the highest score by a Sixers players in the tournament's 10-year history.
Silk took a liking to Kane Richardson in the second over of the power surge, smoking five fours through the off-side in the space of six balls.
He also launched Josh Lalor onto the roof of the Ricky Ponting stand at Blundstone Arena with a leg-side slog.
After an eye-catching debut on Saturday night, Renegades spinner Peter Hatzoglou nabbed another two wickets but conceded 40 runs from four overs.
Hatzoglou trapped opener Jack Edwards lbw with his first ball and returned in the power surge to get rid of Daniel Hughes (32).
None of the Renegades bowlers escaped punishment after skipper Finch elected to bowl, with Lalor the most expensive at more than 12 an over.
