LAS VEGAS _ The 76ers made it official, announcing Sunday that Markelle Fultz will miss the remainder of the NBA Summer League with a lateral sprain to left ankle. He will be sidelined one to two weeks.
That release came a couple of hours after the first overall pick tweeted out nine words as a way to calm the Sixers' fan base.
The first overall pick tweeted out at 9:30 a.m. PST Sunday: "I'm ok, thank you for all who where worried!" He followed that up with a prayer emoji.
This comes the morning after the Sixers and their fans were holding their collective breath. Fultz sprained his ankle after stepping on the back of Jabari Brown's foot while chasing the Golden State Warriors guard in an attempt to block his shot near the basket with 8 minutes, 27 seconds in the third quarter.
Fultz, who was getting ready to jump as he turned the ankle, then landed on the injured foot and fell to the floor, clutching his ankle in the 95-93 victory. He was helped to the locker room and had X-rays to determine the extent of the injury.
Fultz left the arena while the game was still going on to receive treatment at the team hotel. A source said Fultz wasn't expected to play in another summer league game. Another source added Sunday morning that Fultz was good. He also doubted that he would play another game even though the team had not made anything official yet.
