The 76ers are likely to be without their best shooter for some time.
According to the team, an MRI exam Tuesday showed that JJ Redick has a "small cortical crack" in the fibular head of his left leg, which is the bone that originates on the lower outside of the knee. The shooting guard also has swelling on the bone, the Sixers said.
Redick was hurt Monday with 4 minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the victory against the Toronto Raptors. He will be re-evaluated in 10 days to two weeks, the team said.
The 12th-year veteran was the Sixers' top free-agent acquisition this offseason, receiving a one-year, $23 million deal.
He is averaging career bests of 17.3 points and 2.8 rebounds this season. Redick is also shooting 40.5 percent on 3-pointers and 94.6 percent from the foul line.
Aside from his injury, there was definitely a feeling of relief on a number of fronts when the Sixers held on for the 117-111 win over the Raptors on Monday.
It was the Sixers' first win of the season against the top three teams in the Eastern Conference standings _ Boston, Toronto, and Cleveland. The Sixers had been 0-8 against the 3.
The Sixers wanted to show that they could close out a game against a quality team. Just the game before, the Sixers had squandered a 22-point lead in a 114-103 loss to the Boston Celtics in London.
"We have been in this type of position a lot this year," said Joel Embiid, who had 34 points and 11 rebounds. "We just have to stay calm and execute and keep moving the ball and not try to go for any one-on-one and not force things, but keep moving the ball."
Embiid kept the Sixers afloat in the fourth quarter with nine points and five rebounds.
"The big fella (Embiid) was great tonight," said reserve guard T.J. McConnell, who wasn't bad himself, getting 18 points and eight assists. "Just getting him the ball and he closed it out down the stretch and it was a good team win."
The Sixers (20-20) didn't practice on Tuesday. They have a quick rematch on Thursday in Boston with the Celtics, who entered Tuesday's home game against New Orleans with a 34-10 record.
