Sixers hire former Rockets boss Daryl Morey to oversee basketball operations

The Philadelphia 76ers may have already made the biggest free-agent signing of the offseason, but it wasn’t a player they added, but one of the most respected executives in the history of the league. Former Rockets boss Daryl Morey, who stepped down from his post running basketball operations for Houston, will finalize a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers to become their president of basketball operations. Morey will be the president, with Elton Brand remaining as the general manager and new head coach Doc Rivers taking his new position, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Rockets made the playoffs in 10 out of the 13 seasons Morey was in charge. While many are pointing to this year’s Rockets as a suggestion that he might trade for James Harden or want to move on from Joel Embiid or Ben Simmons, Morey has always been hunting star players and with Simmons and Embiid, he already has two on his roster. With his experience, as well as a lot of his former lieutenants working in basketball operations across the league, the Sixers made the best deal they could have done to revamp their team after a disappointing 2020.
