A firefighter’s daughter has recreated what it is like for her dad to be called out on “a shout” in a sequel to a lockdown video that went viral.
Darcey Cook, now six, was filmed running around the family’s back garden in a little firefighter’s outfit in April 2020.
In the footage, she uses a garden hose to tackle a blaze drawn in chalk on the fence, much to the amusement of her parents Jamie, 34, and Becky Cook, 32.
But a sequel video released by her family last week captures Darcey flying into 999 action mode once more – this time at her local fire station.
When her firefighter’s bleeper alerts her to a “shout,” she runs to the station, slips into firefighter gear, “drives” a fire engine and saves the day with a hose.
Jamie, who directed the new film, says he still cannot believe how big the original video became after it amassed millions of views.
Jamie, from Whittlesey, England, said: “We didn’t expect it: we were just putting it out there for people to enjoy – and it just went crazy.”
The dad-of-two explained that the only reason they shot the video was to alleviate the monotony of COVID-19 restrictions.
But within weeks, the 2020 video had exploded, and the family was being bombarded by media outlets from all over the world.
Jamie said, “It was lockdown, at the point when people weren’t allowed out anywhere and kids were bored. Plus it was really hot weather.
“Fox News picked up the story and put it all over their Instagram.
“For all of it to come out of a little kid in the back garden playing with her firefighting stuff was pretty crazy.”
Now, Darcey is starring in a souped-up version of the original video made in 2020.
It is filmed at Whittlesey Fire Station, where Jamie is regularly stationed, and involves her responding to a shout.
The schoolgirl then hops into a fire engine, garbs her hose pipe and saves the day.
Jamie, who joined the fire service shortly after Darcey was born, said the inspiration for filming the second video was straightforward.
He said, “She was getting a bit too big for her little outfit, so we went ‘Ah, let’s maybe do one more video’ while she can still fit in it.
“So we just decided to re-enact it – but make it a bit better.”
The sentimental father says he is not bothered about whether or not the video becomes a worldwide sensation like the previous one.
Jamie added: “I’m not trying to get it to go viral – it’s more just for me.
“Darcey basically lives at the station with me.
“Every time we have a charity car wash, she’s always out there in her little firefighting gear washing cars.
“She’s adamant that she wants to ride on a big red lorry and put out fires.
“And if one day we end up riding on the same fire engine together then that would be pretty cool.”
