Six-year-old migrant found wandering on M6 hard shoulder

Police have rescued a six-year-old - who allegedly entered the UK illegally - from the M6 near Birmingham.

The Central Motorway Police Group's (CMPG) discovery followed numerous reports of a pedestrian being sighted on one of the busiest stretches of Britain's motorway network.

According to the Liverpool Echo, CMPG made the situation public in a statement which empathised with the boy's predicament.

"He was split up from his parents a few days ago, and doesn't know which country they're in," it read.

"It's impossible to imagine how scared someone would be, not knowing where they are, not knowing where their parents are, unable to speak the language.

"We've taken him to a place of safety, with food and water, until social services can come and take him into care."

They later took to Twitter to provide further details.

"Officers sent to reports of a pedestrian on the M6 #Birmingham.

"We found a young boy who had illegally entered the UK. He was split up from his parents a few days ago, and doesn’t know which country they’re in.

"As police, our priority is ALWAYS to protect life."
