Six-year-old child suffers serious injuries after being hit by Vauxhall Corsa in Maybole

A six-year old child has been struck by a car in Maybole.

The boy was struck by a 48-year-old woman driving a Vauxhall Corsa and taken to Crosshouse Hospital before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth University hospital in Glasgow last night (Wednesday).

The collision took place in the town's Abbot Street.

His injures are unknown but thought to be severe.

The 48-year-old woman was assessed at the scene but had no injures.

The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators examined the scene.

An investigation is now underway and officers are appealing for anyone who may have information, and who have not yet spoken with police, to contact them.

In particular, anyone with dash cam is asked to check their footage as the images may assist officers in their enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Road Policing Officers at Irvine Police Station via 101.
