Police in Northern Ireland have confirmed that a bag of white powder found inside a toy egg by a six-year-old boy is believed to be methamphetamine.
The Class A drug was discovered by the boy and his eight-year-old brother while they were playing together on a street in the Drumachose area of Limavady, Northern Ireland.
The boy found the toy egg lying underneath a hedge and discovered the small bag of white powder when they opened it. The boys then handed it to their father, the Derry Journal reported.
Reports suggest the drug was found inside a chocolate Kinder egg, but police have not confirmed what kind of toy the methamphetamine was contained in.
PSNI Inspector Colin Shaw called the incident “deeply concerning”.
“Tackling the use and supply of illegal drugs is a priority for us and the possibility that something so potentially dangerous has been discarded where children could find it is deeply concerning,” he said.
Inspector Shaw urged anyone with any information to contact police.
He said: “I don’t want members of the local community to find drugs on their street, however this incident just reminds us that criminals have no regard whatsoever for the safety of local residents.
"I am thankful that this child had the sense to speak to an adult about what he discovered.”
