Six-year-old boy dies drowning in wave pool at popular water park

A young boy has died after drowning in a wave pool at a water park.

The six-year-old child was found lying still in the pool at Daytona Lagoon in Florida at around 1pm, before lifeguards guards retrieved him from the waters.

They performed CPR while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

The boy was transported to Halifax Health Medical Centre but paramedics were unable to revive him, Daytona Beach Fire Department spokeswoman, Sasha Staton, said.

In a statement park manager Tyler Currie said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family right now.

“This is a tragedy that leaves us all with heavy hearts.”

“We are grateful for the support of our trained lifeguards and teams of medical technicians onsite.

“We are also fortunate that a guest, who was a doctor, also stepped up to assist alongside the team.

“We are completing a thorough review of the incident and cooperating with local authorities, as the safety of our guests is and remains a top priority.”
