A six-year-old boy has been killed during a road traffic collision in Hulme on Sunday evening.
The child was on Wilmott Street, in the suburb, when he was hit by a car just before 6pm.
He suffered critical injuries and was rushed to hospital by air ambulance but sadly died a short time later.
A 32-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
She remains in police custody and is due to be questioned by officers tonight.
Wilmott Street and the surrounding area, including part of Stretford Road, was closed on Sunday evening while police worked to gather evidence from the scene.
An air ambulance landed on the Bonsall Street bridge, over Princess Road, close to the scene of the collision.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 6pm on Sunday, August 9.
“Officers were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a boy on Wilmott Street, in Manchester.
“A six-year-old boy suffered critical injuries and sadly passed away in hospital a short time later.
“A 32-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.”
