Six weeks of roadworks to begin in Long Eaton on Monday

Six weeks of roadworks are set to begin tomorrow as part of a project to increase capacity on the electricity network in Long Eaton.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) says the development will help meet future electricity demand and allow new customers to connect to the grid.

It says the work will also boost net-zero ambitions by ensuring there is enough capacity on the high voltage network for customers to connect low carbon technologies, such as electric vehicle charges and solar panels.

WPD team manager Simon Roper said: “We are aware that residents of Long Eaton have faced a lot of roadworks in recent months.

“We are starting our work now to coincide with the summer holidays when there is less traffic on the roads and we will do our utmost to ensure there is as little disruption as possible while we are carrying out this necessary work.”

The plan will see a mile of 11kV cable installed between Milner Road and Huss’s Lane, via Salisbury Street and Gibb Street.

It is expected to take around six weeks for work to be completed.
