If there's one thing you could be sure of over the last ten years it's that Sergio Aguero would be somewhere in and around the conversation for top goalscorer for Manchester City.
The Argentine striker was the top scorer in each of his first eight seasons at the club but the last two seasons saw a small changing of the guard with the striker out for large periods of time through injury.
But with Aguero leaving the club and joining Barcelona, there is now a big void at the top end of the pitch. Who will be tasked with scoring the majority of the team's goals this season as Pep Guardiola looks to go back-to-back on league titles yet again for Manchester City?
Here are some of the contenders who could be tasked with racking up 20+ goals next season.
Raheem Sterling: Sterling had a tough season last year and lost his place for a large part of the season, but started in the Champions League final defeat to Chelsea to show that Guardiola still has faith in him.
Sterling was the top scorer with 31 goals in 2018/19 and is the player who has scored the most goals for Manchester City in the Guardiola era.
Still just 26 years old, Sterling should just now be entering his prime, and he should return to the Etihad full of confidence after a stellar summer.
Sterling has found his shooting boots again at Euro 2020 with England, you can't rule out him taking on the goalscoring burden at club level once again too.
Ferran Torres: The Spaniard joined as a young winger but seemed to be at his best when playing centrally and in front of goal. Torres showed a good array of finishes and ended up with 13 goals despite not a lot of game time.
He's shown a great ability to score goals for his national team too scoring twice during Euro 2020 and a more permanent position as the central striker could see him really unlock a new level to his game.
Gabriel Jesus: The Brazilian should probably be seen as the first man that would be entrusted with the position considering he's the only other natural striker in the squad.
His record for goals is good but he doesn't have that reliability in front of goal that you ideally need at a top club.
He's never really been trusted with a run of game as the focal point though, even when Aguero was injured and out of the side, so given the chance he could change his fortunes and become the main man.
Kevin De Bruyne: De Bruyne 's role as the chief playmaker at the club probably rules him out of this running, but Guardiola may be tempted to thrust into his false nine role on a more permanent basis with a view to becoming the chief goalscorer instead.
The Belgian just turned 30 this summer so he's still got plenty of years in the bank, but with Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish linked with a £100million move to the Etihad this summer his creative burden could be shared meaning he can focus on scoring goals a bit more to help the team.
Harry Kane: There is always the possibility that City go and splash the cash on replacing Aguero and the number one target is England captain Harry Kane.
Kane would be a ready-made replacement for goals having won three golden boots in his career and he is currently the most likely player to challenge Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goals record of 260 goals.
Kane currently sits seventh on that list with 166 goals, but a 22-goal haul in the season ahead would see Kane overtake Aguero, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard and Andy Cole and go just behind Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.
It would be an expensive summer to bring Kane in, but if they did then the rest of the league will be left shaking in their boots.
Nobody: City showed last season that you don't necessarily need a focal point to score the majority of your goals to be successful, by sharing the goals out among their squad well.
Ilkay Gundogan was the club's top scorer across all competitions with just 17 goals but the German was only one of seven players to hit double figures for the season.
Sharing it out makes it much harder for opposition defenders to close the threat off and could be something Guardiola looks to do again.
