SURAT: Even as the number of Covid-19 cases continue to drop, people dying of the infection went up on Monday. Of the eight deaths reported in South Gujarat region, six were found to be unvaccinated.
On Monday, five deaths were reported in Surat district and two from Diamond City. On Sunday three deaths each were reported in Surat city and district.
According to health officials, three out of five who died in Surat district were unvaccinated. This includes a 36-year-old unvaccinated man from Amkhuta village in Mangrol taluka. He had no comorbidities. A 30-year-old unvaccinated man from Jhab village in Mandvi with sickle cell anaemia died while under treatment for Covid-19. Another unvaccinated was a 60-year-old man from Ghantoli village in Mandvi. He too was not having any comorbidities.
Two unvaccinated persons succumbed to Covid-19 infection in the city. Both had comorbidities. This includes an 82-year-old man from Zampa Bazaar area who died at New Civil Hospital (NCH) within a day of admission. The other deceased was a 72-year-old man from Puna gam who was admitted to SMIMER Hospital on January 29. He was suffering from heart disease and blood pressure.
Meanwhile, a 53-year-old unvaccinated diabetic man died in Valsad.
Two deaths in Surat district area included that of a 68-year-old woman from Bardoli who was suffering from hypertension and a 30-year-old man from Umra in Mahuva taluka. Both died during treatment in hospital.
On Monday, the number of fresh cases dropped in Surat district to 141 from 244 on Sunday. In Surat city, the cases dropped to 277.
Total nine students tested positive in different colleges and schools of the city. Health teams tested 97 persons who came in contact with these students and their reports were awaited.
