Six tourists killed in storm as extreme weather batters Halkidiki in Greece

At least six people have died after gale-force winds, rain and hailstorms struck a popular tourist spot in Greece.

Extreme weather battered northern Greece late on Wednesday (July 10).

Two children, aged eight and two, have died as well as two elderly Czech nationals, reports Mirror Online .

A Romanian woman and an eight-year-old boy were killed after a roof collapsed on a restaurant in Nea Plagia.

A 39-year-old man and a boy, aged two, also died after a tree fell on their vehicle, according to the Greek Reporter .

"It is the first time in my 25-year career that I have lived through something like this," Athansios Kaltsas, director of a medical centre, told OPEN TV.

The Sun reports at least 100 people were injured last night.

Meteorologist Klearxos Marousakis described the weather conditions as "extremely unusual".

A severe thunderstorm warning is in force in Halkidiki, where the weather has been described as 'unprecedented' by local media.
