Six things we learned about Football Manager 2020 Arsenal Edition after surprise announcement

With gaming fans around the world getting ready for the launch of EA SPORTS FIFA 20, Sports Interactive have released some news of their own confirming some surprising news about the upcoming Football Manager 2020 - there will be a club specific Arsenal edition of the much-loved game.

In a short video that was released on the official Arsenal Twitter account, it confirmed a number of add-ons that will be available if players purchase the Arsenal edition of the game, rather than the standard one.

Previously, Sports Interactive confirmed that Football Manager 2020 will be available on Google Stadia and will be the fastest way to experience Football Manager, but it will also be available on PC and Mac.

It has also been confirmed that Football Manager 2020 Touch (for PC, Mac, iOS and Android) and Football Manager 2020 Mobile (for iOS and Android) will be released simultaneously in early November, with Football Manager 2020 Touch for Nintendo Switch to follow in late November.

So, what did we learn from the Football Manager 2020 Arsenal edition trailer?

Arsenal Licensing

(Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2020)

The Football Manager 2020 Arsenal edition will feature a fully officially licensed Arsenal team, complete with club crest, kits, players faces, stadium name and more. These features will not be available in the standard edition, so buying this edition is the only way to get these add ons.

The kits and faces look brilliant in-game, as you can see from the screenshot.

New Inverted Winger role (AMR/AML)

(Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2020)

As you can see from the screenshot below, the Inverted Winger role will be available to use in the AMR and AML strata's for the very first time, with the role only available in the RM and LM strata's previously.

This will give players more flexibility with the roles given to players in these positions, in addition to the Inside Forward, Advanced Playmaker, Winger, Raumdeuter, Wide Target Man and Trequartista roles already available.

Updated Arsenal player attributes

Attribute changes are common every year in Football Manager games, but in Football Manager 2020, one player in particular has had a big boost, after a sensational 2018/19.

Arsenal's club-record signing Nicolas Pepe has seen a number of his attributes increased in FM2020.

These include improvements to his first touch, passing, technique, anticipation, composure, decisions, determination, off the ball, teamwork, work rate and natural fitness.

As you can see, Pepe is now classed as an elite winger too, so his current ability has likely been boosted by quite a bit.

New Squad Status descriptions

Another small detail we spotted was a slight change of wording in terms of squad status options.

In Football Manager 2019, you had status' like backup, rotation, first team and key player.

In Football Manager 2020, it seems that key player has been changed to star player.

In addition, on Matteo Guendouzi's player profile, he's been given a squad status of squad player, which could be either backup, rotation, or a completely new option.

No full Premier League licensing

(Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2020)

Even though Arsenal will be fully licensed in the Football Manager 2020 Arsenal edition, it looks as if Sports Interactive haven't got full Premier League licensing overall, with the league still called the English Premier Division on the game.

Could this mean more club specific Football Manager 2020 editions are still to be released?

New icon in sidebar

Last but not least, the most intriguing thing we spotted in the Football Manager 2020 trailer was the appearance of a brand new icon symbol in the sidebar here.

At first we thought it could be to do with finances, but the club finances symbol is still visible in the screenshot.

Our best guess is that it could be related to player improvements, in terms of their attributes going up and down, depending on their performances.

But, who knows?
