Six the Musical: Backstage with the West End musical that turns Henry VIII's wives into pop princesses

You know the old saying: divorced, beheaded, died... became a pop star. At least that’s true in the case of Six the Musical, where the wives of Henry VIII grab the mic and start to tell their own story.

The Evening Standard went behind the scenes to meet two of the stars of the acclaimed show and find out what life is like backstage at the Arts Theatre, where Six is running until January next year.

Aimie Atkinson and Alexia McIntosh, who play Katherine Howard and Anna of Cleves, provided a guided tour of everything from costumes to on-stage confetti.

The show was written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss while they were still students, and started life at the Edinburgh Fringe before opening at the Arts Theatre in London. Its initial 16-week run has been extended for the rest of the year, and the production was recently nominated for five Olivier awards.

In her five-star review, Evening Standard critic Fiona Mountford described the show as “quite the most uplifting piece of new British musical theatre I have ever had the privilege to watch”.
