Six staff at Glasgow KFC branch test positive for Covid-19 forcing two week closure

A Glasgow KFC restaurant has been forced to close after six members of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The fast-food joint on Pollokshaws Road will be shut for two weeks after half a dozen confirmed cases were discovered.

All infected staff are currently self-isolating at home and bosses say they have been in ‘close contact’ with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Management have decided to shut the branch for a fortnight as a safety precaution, Glasgow Live reports.

A KFC spokesperson said: “Six team members at our Pollokshaws restaurant have tested positive for coronavirus.

“They’re currently self-isolating at home, in line with government guidance – and it goes without saying we’re wishing them a full and speedy recovery.

"We’ve been in close contact with Public Health Protection Unit from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and we’ve taken the decision to close the restaurant for two weeks as a precaution.

"We’re doing all we can to support our teams at this time and continue to work closely with local authorities to make sure we re-open our restaurant only when it’s safe for both guests and team members.”

Meanwhile, a Glasgow branch of McDonald’s has undergone a deep clean after a member of staff was also found to have the bug.

The restaurant on Helen Street, Govan, tested positive last week prompting a short closure of the eatery.

A McDonald’s spokesperson: “One employee at the Govan restaurant tested positive for COVID-19 last week and is now self-isolating.

"As soon as we were informed, the restaurant was deep cleaned by an external cleaning company, and we contacted all restaurant employees.

"We have a number of safety measures in place to help keep our people safe, including Perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, maintaining a two metre distance from others as much as possible, face coverings, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser.”
