Six schools from West Lothian were ranked in Scotland’s top 100

Six schools from West Lothian were ranked in Scotland’s top 100 secondaries this year.

Rankings were based on the percentage of kids passing exams and West Lothian secondaries made up six per cent of the national list.

Linlithgow Academy was the best performing institution in the county and came 25th on the list, West Calder High School was next at 62nd, St Margaret’s Academy and The James Young High School were joint 67th place, Broxburn Academy came in at 81st and the last school was
St Kentigern’s Academy in 91st place.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “It’s great to see all the excellent work taking place in West Lothian recognised with over half of our secondary schools making the top 100 list.

“Attainment has risen for seven consecutive years in West Lothian, with our hard-working pupils achieving more than ever before.

“However, this list only measures exam performance so does not give the full picture of the vital role schools play in developing our young people.

“All 11 West Lothian secondary schools add more than most in Scotland in terms of raising attainment and narrowing the poverty-related attainment gap, which would be a more meaningful comparison.

“West Lothian pupils at all schools outperform comparable students from other authorities in the vast majority of key indicators.

“This demonstrates all our schools are playing a vital role in giving our young people the best possible start in life, regardless of their background.”

The statistics for individual schools were released by the Scottish government.
