Six people rushed to hospital after horror flat fire in Midlothian

Six people have been rushed to hospital after a horrific flat fire in Lothian.

Firefighters are still at the scene on McNeil Terrace in Loanhead after the blaze took hold in the block at around 3.30am.

Five engines were sent to the scene with heroic crews rescuing two people from the top floor of the burning building.

A total of six people from the three-storey block were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Their condition is unknown at this time.

A fire spokesman told the Record the blaze had taken hold on the top floor of the three-storey building,

He said: "We were alerted at 3.30am to reports of a dwellinghouse fire in McNeil Terrace, Loanhead.

"Four appliances and a height vehicle were dispatched to the scene.

"Crews assisted residents in the building.

"Two of the residents were rescued by crews from the top floor.

"Six in total were handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to hospital."

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
