Six rescued by firefighters after cabin cruiser boat gets stuck on mud on River Tyne

Six people who were stranded on a motor boat on the River Tyne had to be rescued after it became stuck in mud.

The emergency services were called to the Tyne near to the Dunston Staiths just before 9.30pm on Friday.

The alarm had been raised after a cabin cruiser boat had become stuck on the mudflats of the river with a number of people onboard.

Fire and rescue crews from Colby Court and Byker were called to the scene as well as police officers.

A fire boat was launched and firefighters were able to approach the 30ft cabin cruiser and rescue six people.

They were then taken to the NE1 pontoon on the Newcastle Quayside uninjured.

The emergency services were on scene until around 10.20pm.
