Six rescued after yacht runs aground in the Firth of Forth

Six people have been rescued from a yacht which ran aground in the Firth of Forth on Friday evening.

The crew on board the 32ft boat called for help after hitting rocks near the Forth Bridge around 7.15pm.

Rescuers helped them off the vessel safely before the boat was made safe on the shoreline, where it remains on Saturday morning.

South Queensferry Coastguard posted on Facebook urging people not to put themselves at risk by going down to the shore to see the wood-hulled yacht.

They said: "On Friday evening HM Coastguard received a Pan Pan (distress call) on Channel 16 from a vessel that had run aground. They alerted the team to attend and asked Queensferry Lifeboat to standby.

"On scene, the Coastguard rescue officers helped them ashore. They were met by 6 crew who all had the correct safety equipment and lifejackets.

"They made vessel secure against the tide, and will be going back on Saturday to check the vessel is still safe and secure.

"We advise members of the public not to put yourself in danger by going down to have a look."

A Coastguard spokesman added: "All casualties were taken off, the vessel currently remains in the area and will be recovered by the owners."

No injuries were reported in the incident.
