Six people taken to hospital after fairground ride collapses in Northern Ireland

Six people - including at least three children - have been taken to hospital after a fairground ride collapsed in Northern Ireland.

The incident happened at Carrickfergus Harbour on the north shore of Belfast Lough at around 6pm on Saturday.

It is understood that a ride at Planet Fun - a theme park running until mid-August - malfunctioned.

Two children were taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and one child was taken to Antrim Area Hospital, BelfastLive reports.

An ambulance spokesperson said two patients were also taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, and one adult was taken to Antrim Area Hospital.

It is understood their injuries are not life-threatening.

A number of other children suffered injuries to their legs, but did not require hospital treatment.

Four emergency crews, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance attended the scene.

A statement from Planet Fun, posted on social media, said: "Important update. Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, Planet Fun will be closed tonight for the 7.30-10.30pm session.

"All tickets will automatically be refunded. Further updates will follow."

One woman claimed: "I was on the ride with all the children, one very badly hurt, one hurt ankle and one in bad shock.

"Absolutely terrifying will never be back."

Stewart Dickson, Alliance MLA for East Antrim, said: "Wish to express my concern at this breaking news hope that early indications are that injuries are not serious.

"I will be expecting a full investigation from the Health and Safety Agency and the local MEA Council."
