A woman was killed and five other people wounded after a shooting on a moving Greyhound bus from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
The California Highway Patrol reports that a suspect is in custody following a shooting on the bus near Bakersfield on Interstate 5.
Roughly 40 passengers were on board. The five people wounded were reported to have suffered only minor injuries.
Several emergency crews responded to the shooting at around 1.30am on a stretch of the interstate near Grapevine Road in East Lebec.
The bus departed Los Angeles around 11.45pm on Sunday, and most passengers were asleep when the suspect reportedly began to yell before opening fire.
A group of passengers moved to safety at the back of the bus while others tried to subdue the suspect.
Sgt Brian Pennings said the bus driver forced the gunman off the bus near a highway shoulder, then pulled the vehicle off the interstate at the nearest exit, roughly 40 miles south of Bakersfield. The gun was left behind on the bus.
Officers picked up the suspected gunman from the shoulder.
Photos from the scene show the bus pulled into a Valero gas station surrounded by several police vehicles and yellow police tape.
Police have not announced a motive.
