Six people hospitalised following two-vehicle collision on Galway road

A serious collision occurred on a motorway in Galway yesterday which resulted in six people being brought to hospital for various injuries.

The incident occurred on the N59 road in the county, at the Leenane side of the church of Our Lady of the Wayside on Wednesday afternoon, April 26.

Garda helicopters were in attendance at the scene of the accident, which bystanders explained looked "serious". According to GalwayBeo, as one witness was leaving the scene, another Garda helicopter flew in.

The road on which the collision happened, the N59, was closed for a period of time, however, it has since reopened.

Gardaí confirmed the incident in a statement to the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí attended the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision which occurred on the N59 in Leenane, Galway yesterday afternoon April 26.

"Six persons were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. The road, which was closed for a time, has since reopened. Investigations are ongoing."

Galway Beo spoke to locals who wished those involved in the collision the best.

One person told the publication: "Don’t sound too good if the second helicopter attended god grant them a speedy recovery to them all."

While another added: "Was this outside the Ballinahinch church? God I really hope everyone is ok. Let's pray for everyone."
