Six-part documentary on Bristol Rovers boss Joey Barton's time at Fleetwood to air next week

A fly-on-the-wall documentary series following Joey Barton's tenure at Fleetwood Town will debut next week.

International streaming service DAZN will broadcast The Contract, a six-part series covering the Cod Army on and off the pitch, on demand from Thursday.

The series has a particular focus on now-Bristol Rovers boss Barton and Fleetwood owner Andy Pilley, promising a "raw and unflinching insight" behind the scenes.

The series, filmed over the past three seasons, will be available in more than 200 countries.

"The Contract is a six-part documentary series following the Cod Army over the course of 2018-2021, providing a raw and unflinching insight into the pressure of running a modern-day football club outside of the Premier League," a Fleetwood spokesman said.

"Filmed in an observational style, looking at the stories of the manager, the owner, players, and the town, this docu-series covers the phenomenal growth of the club, behind the scenes on transfers, as well as a dramatic fight for promotion and the difficulties of running a club in the midst of a pandemic."

Barton took charge of Fleetwood in June 2018 upon his playing retirement, finishing 11th in League One in his first season.

The Cod Army made the play-offs in the shortened 2019/20 season, being beaten in the semi-finals by Wycombe Wanderers.

Things went sour at Highbury Stadium the following season, with Barton sacked in January.

Within two months, he was in charge of Rovers, tasked with keeping the Gas in League One.

Barton was unable to meet that challenge with the Gas sinking to the bottom of the table, but he has been tasked with leading a revival in League Two this season.
