Six new Lake Macquarie skate park designs open to public voting

DESIGNS for three new Lake Macquarie skate parks have been revealed for a public vote to help decide which one will come to fruition.

Lake Macquarie City Council on Wednesday issued imagery for skate parks at Windale, Morisset and Croudace Bay.

Designer Enlocus Landscape Architects used information from community consultation's first stage in 2018 to develop the six street-style parks.

Each location has two options, and the council has opened it up to a public vote to decide which one will proceed.

One of the options for Morisset.

"We have a very passionate and avid skating community in Lake Macquarie, so it was important that we create something for the community by the community," Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser said.

"Together with Enlocus Landscape Architects we have created designs that responded to the community's requests, so I'm excited to see how people vote.

The council's manager asset management, Brendan Callander, said there was substantial feedback supporting a street-style park over a skate bowl.

"The council will invest more than $2 million into the three locations and the designs feature dynamic skating elements like, steep flat banks, wallrides and down rails," he said.

"I'm confident that each of the skate parks will have something for everyone."

One of the options for Croudace Bay.

The Croudace Bay park is part of a planned overhaul at Thomas H Halton Park, while Morisset's would adjoin a proposed Bernie Goodwin Memorial Park playground and outdoor fitness area.

Windale's park, part of the Bahloo Reserve project, will double the size of the suburb's former skate park near the PCYC if completed in its present form.

Consultation is open until June 10 through the Lake Macquarie City Council website.
