CHENNAI: The six new industrial estates set up in different parts of the state will become operational in the next 2-3 months, minister for MSME T M Anbarasan said on Monday. Several other facilities are also in the pipeline to promote the sector, he added.
Delivering the inaugural address at a webinar organised by The Times of India and MSME Trade and Investment Promotion Bureau, (M-TIPB), a TN government enterprise, on the occasion of MSME Day, the minister said the new estates in Trichy, Tiruvallur, Madurai, Chengalpet, Cuddalore and Tuticorin were being set up on 496 acres at ₹276 crore.
Pointing out that the government had taken several initiatives for the growth of MSMEs, he said it was also focusing on developing private industrial estates, creating common facility centres. “Export zones will be set up in 10 places including Hosur, Coimbatore and Trichy.” The rates of expensive unsold plots in Tansidco industrial estates were revised, resulting in establishment of MSME entities. “After the cost of such plots reduced, 761 plots have been sold to set up micro and small enterprises,” he said.
Later, during a discussion on how to make Tamil Nadu the no. 1 in MSMEs, Grace Pachuau, additional commissioner, industries and commerce and executive director, M-TIPB, said the government was formulating a Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) under the World Bank’s $500 million post-Covid resilience and recovery programme. “We will submit the report to get about $ 50 million in the next couple of years to revitalise MSMEs.” tnn
