Six Nations hit by second Covid case hours after first positive test result emerges

France coach Fabien Galthie has tested positive for Covid-19.

After announcing on Tuesday morning that Galthie would be retested after a "suspicious and unproven case", the French Rugby Federation have now announced that the French coach's test has returned positive and he will now isolate for seven days.

In an official press release, the FFR said: "This diagnosis was established following a test this morning [Tuesday], in verification of a PCR test carried out the day before.

"During this test, the France group tested negative with the exception of two members of the management, including Fabien Galthié.

"In accordance with the health protocol in force, the two members of the management whose isolation began [on Monday] evening, will continue to isolate themselves for seven days. Their activities will continue to be carried out remotely.

"To date, no symptoms have been observed.

"An additional test, carried out on Wednesday morning at the National Rugby Centre, will be carried out with the entire France group.

"Tests will be carried out at home on Friday, as well as on Sunday evening at the National Rugby Centre.

"The announcement of the 31 players for the match against Scotland will take place this Wednesday evening, February 17."

France, who have won their first two matches against Italy and Ireland, face Scotland on February 28 and England on March 13 before finishing the tournament by welcoming Wales to Paris on March 20.

The Irish Rugby Football Union has confirmed that all members of the Ireland squad and backroom team have tested negative in their latest PCR testing after the news of a positive case in the French camp. PCR testing is where a swab is sent to a lab to get tested.

The IRFU issued a statement to RTÉ Sport to clarify the latest round of tests for the Irish camp.

"All members of the Ireland squad and backroom team undertook routine PCR testing on Monday producing no positive results. The group will undergo further routine testing again this week as per our protocols."
