Six Nations hit by first Covid-19 case as France squad put into isolation

France’s Six Nations squad have gone into isolation following a positive Covid-19 test from a staff member.

The French rugby federation confirmed a staff member’s positive test in a statement on Tuesday.

They also revealed that while head coach Fabian Galthie returned a negative Covid-19 test, he will be re-tested. A later statement confirmed the head coach has contracted coronavirus.

A statement read: "Following the PCR tests carried out last night in Marcoussis with the XV of France, all the players tested negative, a member of the technical staff tested positive, as well as a suspicious and unproven case concerning Fabien Galthié who will be tested again this morning,

"In accordance with health protocol, all members of the team and management were isolated this morning. Interactions are kept to a minimum.

"An additional test carried out at the National Rugby Centre will be carried out on Wednesday morning for the entire selection. Tests will be carried out at home on Friday, as well as on Sunday evening at the National Rugby Centre."

France will announce the 31-man squad for the Scotland match on Wednesday evening.

Galthie's side, who have won their first two matches against Italy and Ireland, face Scotland on Februrary 28 and England on March 13 before finishing the tournament by welcoming Wales to Paris on March 20.
