Six Nations 2019: Dan Robson expected to start for England against Italy as he looks to stake World Cup claim

Dan Robson hopes he will finally get a chance to stake his World Cup claims in England's Six Nations match against Italy on Saturday.

The Wasps scrum-half is expected to make his first start following his 10-minute cameo against France on his international debut last month.

Eddie Jones released five players from his squad on Thursday night, with Chris Robshaw, Jonathan Joseph, Harry Williams and Alec Hepburn all released back to their clubs.

Maro Itoje (knee) and Jack Nowell (shoulder) are fitness doubts for the clash at Twickenham.

Bath lock Charlie Ewels and the uncapped Gloucester flyer Ollie Thorley provide cover.

England currently sit second in the Six Nations standings on 12 points - two adrift of leaders Wales, who face Scotland next - after seeing their hopes of a first Grand Slam since 2016 ended by a 21-13 defeat to Warren Gatland's side at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on February 23.
