Six MP women hockey players in junior Team India camp

BHOPAL: Six junior women players of MP Hockey Academy Gwalior have been selected for Junior India Camp of 32 core group members. Hockey India announced the core group recently.

As per the official statement, the six players who have made the cut include, Nishi Yadav, Sanskriti, Jyoti, Priyanka Yadav, Haritika Singh and Khushboo Khan.

Extremely happy with this development, sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia congratulated the selected players and chief coach of women's hockey, Paramjit Singh.

Notably, seven girl payers of MP women hockey academy were selected recently for the Khelo India Talent development (KIT). It is the scheme of government of India wherein hockey payers from across the country are chosen and prepped for the Olympics.

"We had 9 players in Rio Olympics and then 7 players were called for Khelo India project and now 6 players for junior National camp. This is a dream come true for any state," said Scindia. She added that women MP hockey players have made everyone proud whenever these hockey players have given the opportunity to play for the country.

"Women hockey players for the first time got an opportunity to hone their talent at an academy in Madhya Pradesh. This is what we have done. Indian team has majority of players trained in MP academy," added Scindia.

Chief coach of the academy, Paramjeet Singh, said in a chat with TOI that selection of such large number of players for a national team from any state is quite rare and is a matter of pride.
