Six more people die in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus

A further six people have died in Greater Manchester hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus.

The region's coronavirus hospital death toll has now reached 5,012, the latest NHS figures show.

Five more deaths were recorded by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in its 24 hour figures.

The trust is in charge of some of the city's major hospitals including the Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust recorded one more death.

Today's daily death total is lower than previous days. However, there is sometimes a lag in hospital data after weekends.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Monday, February 1, are:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 548
  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9
  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 954 (+5)
  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6
  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 1,383
  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 7
  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 430
  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 443 (+1)
  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 512
  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 22
  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 698

Nationally, a further 356 people, who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 72,145.

Patients were aged between 22 and 103 years old, NHS England said. All except 20 (aged 50 to 96 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from May 18 to January 31 with the majority being on or after January 27.
