RATCHABURI: A six-month pregnant horse was injured when she was hit by a car on a road in Muang district early on Sunday, police said.
The car, a black Honda Civic, was partly damaged but the driver was not hurt.
Pol Maj Jitrakorn Rodtaweepol, a police investigator, said the accident occurred at about 1am on Ratchaburi - Wang Phleng road in front of Wat Thep-awas in the municipal area.
Teeradet Withaya-areekul, 34, the driver of the car, said that he was driving home when a black horse suddenly emerged from a side road and walked across the road. He was unable to stop the car before the horse was knocked to the ground. It was later moved out of the road.
Nirach Tantawee, 58, the owner of the mare, said he had locked the eight-year-old animal in a pen in the middle of a ricefield as she is about six months pregnant. He had no idea how the horse broke loose from the pen.
Police invited both Mr Teeradet and Mr Nirat to the police station for talks about compensation.
