Six Manchester United players praised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Perth Glory win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with the performances by six Manchester United youngsters in the 2-0 win over Perth Glory.

Four academy graduates started United's pre-season opener at the Optus Stadium and Solskjaer made 11 changes at half-time with the scoreline goalless.

Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock on the hour mark and James Garner - a late substitute for the injured Luke Shaw - scored his first senior goal to seal victory.

New signing Daniel James completed 45 minutes in the first-half while fellow new recruit Aaron Wan-Bissaka played out the second-half. Solskjaer name checked the duo, as well as the teenage academy quartet in his full-time assessment.

"Both the new lads did well," Solskjaer said. "Both Dan and Aaron. You had Mason [Greenwood], Angel [Gomes], Jimmy, the young lads... [Tahith] Chongy. All showed they can make it as a Man United player.

"And the more experienced ones did a job because we got 45 minutes out of most and it was a professional workout from everyone.

"We're happy, it was all abut continuing the good work they've done, and fitness work, get 45 minutes into most of them, and work and run when you're on the pitch and try a couple of things.

"Of course, we played against a very well organised team which made it difficult for us to create too many chances but we did enough in the end."

The 17-year-old Greenwood, another half-time change, had a shot tipped onto the post as he sported his new squad number of 26. Angel Gomes, 18, has also been bumped up to the number 28, having previously worn 47.

Chong, 19, lined up in a four-pronged attack on the right with James, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial before he made way with the rest of his teammates at the interval.
