Six Manchester United players named in Europa League squad of the season

Manchester United have seen six members of their side selected for UEFA's Europa League squad of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side suffered defeat in Wednesday's final against Villarreal in Gdansk, with David de Gea failing to score United's 11th penalty in a dramatic shootout.

While the campaign ended in disappointment, numerous members of United 's squad have been recognised for their performances throughout the course of the season.

Bruno Fernandes, who scored nine goals during the club's run to the final, was unsurprisingly among those selected, as was United skipper Harry Maguire.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba also secured a spot, as did striker Edinson Cavani - who scored United's equaliser in the final as well as netting a brace in both legs of the semi-final triumph against Roma.

Elsewhere, Premier League rivals Arsenal, who were knocked out of the competition by Villarreal in the semi-finals, had one sole member included in the form of Nicolas Pepe - who struck six goals to finally start to live up to the club-record fee the Gunners paid for his services.

Villarreal, unsurprisingly, also had a wealth of players selected in the squad - with Geronimo Rulli, who saved De Gea's penalty to decide the game, among them.

Pau Torres, a player who is of interest to United heading into the summer transfer window, was selected alongside fellow defenders Raul Albiol and Alfonso Pedraza, with Dani Parejo, Etienne Capoue and Gerard Moreno capping off the inclusions for the champions.

Elsewhere in the squad, Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb), Pau Lopez (Roma), Gianluca Mancini (Roma), Leonardo Spinzzola (Roma), Mislav Orsic (Dinamo Zagreb) and Lukas Provod (Slavia Prague) also earned a spot.

The final role in the squad was taken by former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, who has shone with Roma this term.
