Six Man Utd fixtures to be rescheduled before Premier League TV commitments announced

Six of Manchester United’s fixtures in the first half of the Premier League season will be rescheduled - not taking into account those set to be switched for TV coverage.

The release of the 2019-20 fixture list on Thursday saw United’s opening day clash with Chelsea take centre stage.

The meeting between ‘Big Six’ rivals will be the first Super Sunday ‘main event’ of the campaign, having been switched to a Sunday 4pm kickoff.

But the reality of United’s return to the Europa League is already beginning to bite, with last season’s sixth place finish meaning a return to Thursday night football in European football’s secondary club competition.

As a result every league game due to take place after United's Europa exploits will be moved from the originally scheduled Saturday to either Sunday or Monday.

United are guaranteed to play at least six times in the Europa League next season, having qualified for the group stage; they will find out their opposition on August 30.

Subsequently, six Premier League fixtures will be rescheduled, the first of which is the away trip to West Ham on September 21.

Trips to Newcastle United (October 5) and Norwich City (October 26) will also be moved.

So too will three home matches: Brighton (November 9), Aston Villa (November 30) and Everton (December 14).

The changes will be officially announced after UEFA confirms the club’s European fixtures.

It is certain those won’t be the only matches rescheduled during the first half of the campaign due to TV commitments.

United appeared on UK TV 27 times during 2018-19.
