Six Liverpool players named in Champions League squad of the season - but there is one notable omission

Six Liverpool players have been named in the UEFA Champions League squad of the season - but there is one notable omission for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp's side were crowned Kings of Europe on Saturday night after beating Spurs 2-0 in the all-English final in Madrid.

Goals in either half from Mo Salah and Divock Origi were enough for the Reds at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

And now, less than 24 hours on from their triumph in the Spanish capital, a number of the club's stars are celebrating again.

Following their successful season in Europe, Allison Becker, Virgil van Dijk , Trent Alexander-Arnold , Andrew Robertson , Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane have all been named in the competition's squad of the season, taking their places along some of biggest names in the game.

But there was one notable omission with Mo Salah failing to secure a place in this year's 20-man squad.

Despite the Egyptian scoring five times in 12 appearances in this season's competition, it still wasn't enough, with fellow forwards Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dusan Tadic, teammate Mane and Lucas Moura all getting the nod ahead of the 26-year-old.
