Six killed after car plunges into canal in Ayutthaya

AYUTTHAYA: Six people were killed when their car skidded off a curved bridge, smashed through the railing and plunged into a canal in Bang Pa-in district of this central province early Sunday, police said.

Pol Lt Col Pornnarin Pluangkrathok, an investigator from Phra-in Racha police station, said the accident occurred at about 3am. The car, carrying four men and two women, was crossing the bridge linking the western ring road and Phahon Yothin road in tambon Chiang Rai Noi.

All six people in the car were killed. Three bodies were found lying on the road and the other three in the canal.

The four men were identified as Pakphum Seedokmai, the 25-year-old driver, Saengsuree Boonkhum, 29, Peerapong Pothira, 24, and Tossawat Paisalkhan, 23, all from Muang district of Chaiyaphum province.

The two women were Suwisa Pradutchon, 31, of Surin's Lamduan district, and Rawiwan Lao-ngam, 20, of Saraburi's Nong Khae district.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police believed the driver lost control of the car while it was crossing the bridge at high speed in the rain, causing it to skid through the bridge railing and plunge into the canal.
