Six Irish acts announced for Primavera Sound Festival 2022 as stacked lineup emerges

Six Irish acts have been named in the initial lineup for Primavera Sound 2022.

The full list was released today, with a host of Irish acts among the talent performing.

Fontaines D.C., CMAT, The Murder Capital, Bicep, Maria Somerville, and Sinead O'Brien will perform at various times across the two-weekend festival in Barcelona.

They have good company on stage, with headliners including The Strokes, The National, Dua Lipa, Tame Impala, Tyler the Creator, Lorde, Megan The Stallion and Massive Attack.

After the 2020 and 2021 festivals were cancelled due to the pandemic, the 2022 festival will take place over two dates in celebration of their 20th anniversary.

Over 150 festival shows will take place in Barcelona between June 2-4 and June 9-11.

Those who purchased tickets from the cancelled festivals can retain their tickets to attend one weekend of the festival, with full details coming soon on the festival's website.

General tickets will go on sale on June 1.

There's even more acts set to be announced ahead of the extravaganza next year.

Meanwhile, the Irish Government is to make an announcement on reopening plans on Friday, with much anticipation around dates for travel, indoor hospitality and live events.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said the reopening of major sectors over the next two months will be "steady".

Martin said the Government will try some events next month and then decide on what is possible in July.

Two Cabinet meetings will take place later this week where the National Public Health Emergency Team's (NPHET) latest public health advice will be considered.

"We will outline what is possible, what we feel is possible for June and July in respect of travel for example, in respect for hospitality, and indeed live entertainment and the arts," Mr Martin told RTE's Today with Claire Byrne programme.

"We may try some events in June and then see what's possible in July, but we will take NPHET's advice.

"It's steady as she goes to the end of this month, it'll be steady in June. We'll see what's possible in July."
