Six iPhone tricks and hacks about which most owners have no idea about

Many iPhone users don’t realise there are so many handy and somewhat hidden features that their handsets come with.

While some are easy enough to find, others you wouldn’t know about, unless you’ve been shown.

So we've compiled six iPhone tricks that you may not be aware of that are extremely useful.

Calculator trick

Everyone knows the frustration of typing the wrong digit on the iOS Calculator mid-sum and having to start all over again.

However, there’s a handy hidden function that means you won’t have to hit the AC button when you make a mistake - having to start again.

Just swipe to the left or right at the top of the screen above the digits.

The onscreen motion will directly backspace and will remove the number you entered last - saving a whole heap of time.

Flash notifications

For anyone who prefers visual phone alerts instead of a ringtone, did you know you can get your iPhone’s flash to blink several times whenever you receive a message or phone call?

All you need to do is go into Settings and click on the Accessibility option.

Then, enter Audio/Visual and switch the LED Flash for Alerts toggle switch to “on.”

Magnify Setting

If you’re ever in a situation where you can’t read a sign while walking, or a menu in a restaurant, you can now magnify things on your camera.

To use this hack, go to Settings, open Accessibility, and then tap Magnifier to toggle the feature 'on'.

Once the Magnifier is on, you can open the iOS Camera app and triple-tap the side button to bring up the Magnifier option.

Then all you have to do is use the slider at the bottom of the screen to look at anything - even closer than your camera’s original zoom settings.

Callback

If you’re ever in a rush and need to quickly call back someone you have just been onto, iPhone has a handy built-in shortcut to enable that.

Head onto the phone app, then instead of tapping the 'Recents' tab, just tap the green call button on the main keypad.

This will instantly let you call the last number you last dialled.

Take photos during video

iPhones now let you record video and take a photo at the same time using this simple trick.

While you’re recording a video you'll see another white circle button beside the record button.

Simply tap this to take a quick picture without interrupting your video recording.

Photo focus hack

There’s nothing worse than trying to take a photo and losing focus if you move last minute.

There’s a hidden setting on iPhones that will ensure you won't lose focus or exposure when the camera moves.

You can lock the focus and exposure by tapping and holding the screen until a yellow "AE/AF Lock" message appears.

Even if you change your composition, the focus and exposure will not change before you take the photo.
